Description/Abstract

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in Lesotho though the Department of Agricultural Research (DAR) recieved funding to participate in the  Agricultural Productivity Programme for Southern Africa (APPSA) for six years (2020-2025). The objective of APPSA is to increase the availability of improved agricultural technologies in participating countries in the SADC region.  One of the  components of APPSA talks about supporting technology dissemination activities (extension, strengthening of innovation systems), hence the DAR felt it imperative that the differnt stakeholders within the agricultural sector in Lesotho needed to be made aware of the existence and operations of APPSA in Lesotho. This article gives a summary of the sensitzation campaigns that were held in all ten districts of the country.

CCARDESA was established by SADC in 2010 to coordinate agricultural research and development in the region. Since then, the SADC Member States have maintained a high level of political commitment and a good appreciation of the importance of increased and sustained investment in agricultural research.

O Programa para o Aumento da Produtividade Agrária na África Austral (APPSA) é um projecto regional com apoio financeiro do Banco Mundial (BM). O projecto começou, originalmente, com três países (Malawi, Moçambique e Zâmbia) e, actualmente expandiu para Lesoto e Angola. A implementação nos primeiros três países teve seu início em 2013 e encerrou oficialmente em Janeiro de 2020. Angola e Lesoto juntaram-se ao APPSA em 2019 e espera-se que implementem o projecto até 2025.

Description/Abstract

The Agricultural Productivity Programme for Southern Africa (APPSA) is a regional project with financial support from the World Bank (WB). The project originally started with three countries (Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia), and it has now expanded to Lesotho and Angola. Implementation in the first three countries commenced in 2013 and officially closed in January 2020. Angola and Lesotho joined APPSA in 2019 and are expected to implement the project until 2025.

 The Gas Water Geyser is manufactured by a Japanese company called Paloma. The Gas Water Geyser costs about P8, 690.00 Vat Exclusive. The Geyser delivers hot water at a constant pressure at a rate of 20ℓ/min (liters/minutes). The Geyser is very efficient. A typical 14kg (Kilograms) gas can last for 7 months in the household of 2 occupants. The Microprocessor Control Unit is a device that regulates gives water temperature and pressure. Mr Colley gave an elaborative example on the efficiency of Gas Water Geyser The Director of the company Mr Martin Colley gave an insightful presentation on his revolutionary products. Description/Abstract

This is a brief report on the survey that Lesotho through its Department of Agricultural Research did as one of its activities under APPSA Project. The same survey was undertaken in countries that first took part in the APPSA Project. The data is currently being processed and the results will be published for consumption of different audiences.
